Sacred and Ritual Objects Torah mantle, Romania, 1900-1950
The Torah mantle is made of purple velvet.
The rectangular cloth cloak is made of two parts and is attached at the upper border, leaving two openings for Torah Scroll rods. It opens in its back part. The cloth is decorated with the Tablet of the covanent flanked by two standing lions, looking at the Tablets. On top a crown flanked by the inscription:
! כתר תורה !
! A Torah^crown !
Two dedicatory inscriptions are embroidered in filled square letters on the lower part. A decorative embroidered of two branches surrounds one inscription, which reads:
! ז!נ חיה יענטע ## בר' ישראל נחום !
!This is the donation (int.) of Hayah Yente ## daughter of Rabbi (int.) Israel Nahum !
The second inscription reads:
! אשת ר' צבי ב!ר יוסף גאלדמאן !
! The wife of Zvi son of rabbi (int.) Joseph Goldman!
