Sacred and Ritual Kulmus, Israel/Eretz Israel, 1919, 1923
The flat Torah pointer consists of a bar and a pointer.
The bar is divided into lower and upper parts. The narrow upper part consists two units: a faceted unit bearing octagons separated by horizontal lines that is surmounted by a narrower cylindrical unit composed of rings and a drop shaped top.
The wider lower part is flat and drop shaped. It bears on both sides a Hebrew dedicatory inscription, arranged in three lines, written in square filled letters, which reads towards the pointer:
Front side:
"זה הקולמוס הקדיש אותו משה בן אלישע גאנא הי"ו (ה' יחיהו וישמרהו)/ ח"י תמוז ש" (שנת) תרע"ט"
This reed pen (Torah Pointer) was dedicated by Moses (Moshe) Ben Elisha Gana may the Lord sustain and protect him, on the 18th of Tamuz the year (5)4279 (3.7.1919)
A latter inscription marking the dedication of the chain by Elio and Joseph was added on the backside. It reads:
"זה השלשלת אשר על הקולמוס היקדישו הבנים/ אליאו ויסף לעילוי נ"ש (נשמת) משה ן' (בן) אלישע הנפטר/ ז' ל"ח (לחודש) כסליו ה'ת'ר'פ'ד"
This chain, which is attached to the Torah Pointer (Kulmus) was dedicated by the sons Elio and Yoseph for the redemption of the soul of the late Moshe N. Elisha, on the 7th of Kislev the year (5)4284 (15.11.1923).
The bar terminates in a cuff that consists of three rings and a clenched hand with a crooked index finger.
The bar is topped by a ring shaped hanger. A loop attached to a chain is inserted through the hanger.
The first inscription marks the dedication day of the torah pointer by Moses Be Elisha Gana, while the second one was added after his death, and marks the dedication of the chain by his two sons.
