Jewish Architecture Synagogue in Sandomierz - Interior
To the main object: Synagogue in Sandomierz, Poland
Murals cover the groined vault and the walls of the prayer hall of the synagogue.
Depictions of the Zodiac signs are located along the perimeter of the groined vault. Each sign is placed within an ovular medallion and inscribed. In the center of the vault, in a rectangular frame, was an image with a pair of hands lifting the unwrapped Torah scroll.
There are views of Jerusalem depicted on the walls and paintings of the sanctuary implements surrounding the Torah ark. Above the ark there is a depiction of a Leviathan around a circular window. The four animals were painted on the north wall of the prayer hall within the illusionary semi-circular arches painted on the pilasters. In the niche of the Torah ark are earlier paintings of the tablets of the law flanked by griffins, floral decorations, and pomegranates.
