Sacred and Ritual Torah mantle, Thessaloniki (Salonika)
The rectangular cover is inscribed with a Judeo- Spanish (Ladino) dedication embroidered with Hebrew square letters, which reads:
"הקדש/ דיל סי' (סיניור)/ יצחק (ב)ן ארון/ שנת 5688."
“A Dedication made by Senior Isaac son of Aaron, the year 5688 (1928)."
The inscription is topped by a Star of David enclosing the word "Zion" and is mounted over a wreath of two foliate stems.

A collection of ritual objects was confiscated from the Greek Jews when they were deported toAuschwitzduring World War II. This Torah cover was transferred in 1948 to the Jewish Historical Institute (JHI) from Narozno, a city inSilesiawhere the Nazis stored the objects.
