Jewish Architecture Synagogue (Great Temple) in Deva, Romania
The synagogue is a width building.
Exterior: The synagogue is reminiscent to the one at Sighisuara. But this building bears an apse.
The entrance is from the western wall.
Interior: The ceiling is a barrel vault. The women’s section is a two floor gallery placed at the western side.
The Torah ark is placed in a niche in the east wall. It is flanked by two windows, the only ones in the synagogue. The windows bear a colored glass decoration. The Ark is mounted over a podium, it has an architectonic shape with two towers on the sides.The Bimah is placed at the back, close to the west wall.
The sitting arrangement is in rows.
According to Boris Khaimovich, this synagogue is different from the others in the area because it is a width building maybe it was caused because of ground limitations.
The ritual objects are kept in the community center.
