Fol. 2:

Five scenes, all depicting the preparation of the matzah, are arranged irregularly on the page, starting in the middle zone, on the right.

Middle zone, right: A woman standing at a large table, on which are a heap of flour in a basin and two open sacks. Inscribed:

לששון ולשמחה/ אשה ממלאת ההין קמחה

“For joy and happiness (Zech. 8:10), a woman fills the measure with flour.”

Middle zone, left: A woman kneading the dough in a trough while another woman pours in water.

Inscribed:

תוך האגן ידה מכניסה/ כדי ללוש העיסה

“This woman pours water to knead the dough.”

Lower zone, right: A man knocking back the dough with a long handled bat attached to a table. Behind the table is a youth holding up a stick. Inscribed:

אינו חש על טרחו/ לש הבצק בכל כוחו

“He does not spare his labour, (but) kneads the dough with all his might.”

 

In the lower right-hand corner, a dog without a tongue.

Inscribed:

לא חרץ כלב לשונו/ לכן בא לעשות רצונו

“A dog did not move his tongue (≠ Ex. 11:7), therefore he comes to do his (master’s) wish.”

 

Upper zone, right: Two men rolling out matzot and a woman decorating them at a table.

Inscribed:

הגיל ובדיצות/ מתקנין את המצות

“With joy and mirth they prepare the matzot.”

 

Upper zone, left: A man and a woman putting a decorated matzah into a domed oven on a peel.

Inscribed (almost entirely effaced):

זאת מגישה את המצה/ ... תוך התנור ...

“She puts the matzah in the oven …”
