Material / Technique
The tesserae are made of limestone and clay. They are laid in curved lines within the figure and in straight parallel lines in the background.
The bird's outline consists of one line of black tesserae. The bird, leaves and grapes are surrounded by one line of background tesserae.
The average number of tesserae in 10cm2 equals (10x11). Lower densities are found in the bird's body (10x9), and even lower in the grapes (9.5x9).
A few hues of red are used, aside from the different hues of black and white.
