Memorial Name

Памʼятний знак жертвам фашизму

Translation: Memorial Sign to the Victims of Fascism

Who is Commemorated?

Jewish victims of the Holocaust from Kosiv and nearby villages

Description

This monument is located on the killing site near the Mass Graves on Zamkova (Miska) Hora in Kosiv not far from the Jewish cemetery. It is a large, roughhewn stone with an inscription. When the monument was erected in 1968, its inscription was engraved on the stone, and didn't mention the Jewish ethnicities of the victims. In 1994, a renovation of the Monument was carried out. A part of the initial inscription, including the words "Soviet citizens" was erased and a plaque with Ukrainian and Hebrew inscriptions was bolted to the stone. The plaque also bears two Magen David above the inscriptions. Both new inscriptions specify the Jewish ethnicities of the victims.
