Vol. II, fol. 44: The five initial words on this page of the amidah in the morning service for the second day of New Year are written and decorated by scribe B in alternating red and brown ink (height: 20mm.; 2 lines). Each letter is surrounded by alternating red and brown wriggle work with foliage extensions.
The wriggle work of the first initial word Be favourable (רצה) incorporates above the first letter the bust of an armoured equestrian knight with a shield and brandishing a sword. Only the horse's head is drawn. Facing the knight, above the last letter, is a winged dragon with a foliate tongue.
