Four pairs of peacocks decorate the corners of the mosaic pavement of the nave, occupying the space between the border of the central square panel and the eight-pointed star enclosed within the panel. The pairs of peacocks are depicted in profile, each peacock facing the other and each pair of birds holding a bunch of grapes in their beaks. Each bird is depicted in profile with a large body with a short neck, and long legs with three claws. For each peacock, one wing and the folded tail are visible while the "eyes" of the tail feathers are depicted as circles. A crest surmounts the head of each bird. The pairs of peacocks differ in color and in the size of the bunches of grapes.
