Vol. II, fol. 166: The initial word of each positive precept in this page is written in display script within a separate small panel of red filigree. The panel at the top right contains a green and magenta medallion enclosing a bust of a man raising his hands in priestly blessing. This image may allude to the following text of the positive precept of purity of the priests (מצות עשה שיהו הכהנים מטמאין לקרוביהם).
The medallions in the other four panels illustrate the texts which follows the repeated first word “To check” (לבדוק) (the purity of the mentioned animals): The one at the bottom right column depicts a crouching lamb, the other three in the left column, enclosing a fowl, a duck and a fish. Each animal is mentioned in the text, except for the duck, probably illustrates the hagav ("grasshopper") which was not familiar to the artist. Red flourishes extend from the panels into the margins.
