Fol. 54v: A text illustration of a man seated between two raised swords, executed by artist A in brown ink, is set in the upper-middle left column of the piyyut for Shaharit for the second day of the New Year. The man is seated on a four-legged stool between two raised swords held within the closed fists of two large arms. The man is facing left, with his long hands stretched out before him on his knees. The long swords rise up in between the two text lines above the man’s head. This illustrates the words “With glittering swords he carves retribution” ((סועף בחרבות שנונות, written in the ninth line of the right text column. The small initial word “I will give” (אתן ) is rubricated in red at the top of the page and letters rubricated in red open each text line.
