The wooden Torah^case consists of a body and a crown. The 12-facets body is covered with red cotton velvet. Ribbons are attached around the base and the upper part and along the front with dome-headed nails. Two Stars^of^David, made of thin lines, are seen in the centre of each half. Two silver cartouches plaques are attached to the back of the body, bearing a dedicatory inscription. The plaques are cut, engraved and sealed with 4 circles. It reads,in outline letters, from the right: !This is a book, dedicated for the soul of Samuel, son of Mullah Menashe Dil! The inscription continues on the left, and reads: !This is the Torah, dedicated by Menashe to the soul of his son, who was killed! The onion-shaped crown is covered with red velvet. It has six rimon mounts. An arched paper plaque is attached to both sides of the case opening. It bears an inscription, in golden filled-letters, which reads from the right, in an arched line: !__________________, Thou art mighty forever O Lord (initials). Inside the arch, the inscription continues in six lines: !And this is the law which Moses set before the children of Israel: These are the testimonies, and the statutes, and the judgments, which Moses spoke unto the children of Israel, after they came forth out of Egypt (Deut. 4:44-45), Elul 5639 (=1879)!. The inscription continues on the left in the same manner. The arched line reads: !For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life!(Prov.6:23) It continues inside the arch: !This Torah case and the Torah scroll in it were dedicated to the soul who has found mercy, Shmuel son of Menashe, May his soul be bound up in the bond of life, Elul 5639 (=1879)!.
