In the center of the composition we see a naked child stretched on a ram's back; on each side of the ram stands a figure in long white clothes with a bird on the head. The third analogous figure is being inclined to the child from behind, apparently preparing for making the operation. The right leg of the child seems to be cut.

Summary and Remarks
The motive of circumcision appears here in its clearest form (comparing with other works of the same cycle "Rituals"). This very drawing provides also a clear basis for a suggestion of the origin of the fantastic motive of birds that stand on the heads of "priests":it may be a reminiscence of the 18th century hats that are seen in the old engravings representing the habits of Jews. The closest exemple is the etching of B.Picart "La circoncision des juifs portugais". Regarding the title - cf. OC 8214
