A cobbler is depicted fixing a shoe in his basement shop. The cobbler is bearded and wears a red skull cap and a long dark apron over his blue clothing. He sits on a low round stool by his work table. Shoe molds are arranged in two rows on shelves above his head, and a pair of shoes rests on the window sill in the upper center of the composition. A round bin is discernible beneath the window, by the doorway and a large wooden chest rests on the floor in the bottom right. The open door with three steps leading up is depicted in the top right corner and through it a street scene is visible. A bearded man tugs a goat along the street lined with low houses.
