The page opening the third chapter of the SeMaK includes a rectangular part-page painted panel set on the upper part of the page and filling the width of the text space, containing an initial word panel in its centre for the word “to sanctify” (לקדש), executed in the first stage of decoration. The initial word is written in gold letters on a green ground decorated with green branches. The ascender of the letter „Lamed“ and the descender of the letter „Kuf“ of the initial word push the upper and lower parts of the border into the outer frame, thus forming half circles.
The rectangular initial word panel filled with lozenges set on an blue ground decorated with small red flowers. The lozenges enclose white animals on an alternating red and Bordeaux ground, imitating spared-ground technique. The animals include stages, rabbits and lions all rampant, spread eagles in a frontal position, goats, unicorns and dragons. The part page panel and the initial word panel set within it are both framed by yellow borders, with a running black chevron motif and gold squares set on each of the corners.
