The initial word “Moshe” משה which opens the book of Tractate Avot, occupies the width of the text space. It is written within a rectangular panel outlined in a thick green color line and filled with red color foliate sprays. The word is written in large square Ashkenazi script in green color with silver powder dots forming flowers. Each letter is outlined by, yellow, white and red lines from the letter outward. On the top of the page is the initial word “All” כל which opens the verses recieted before the reading of Tractate Avot chapters is written in bold square Ashkenazi script in dark brown ink within a rectangular panel, filled with foliate scroll which enclose a palmette motif in green penwork on spare ground technique. A band of strung beads in green ink is above the panel. The ascender of the “lamed”, protrudes from the panel and is decorated with a fleur-de-lys motif. Tendrils extend from the top, left and bottom sides of the panel.
