Three men, each wearing a long hood and gown of green and red, are depicted sitting on cathedras in the upper part of the text space. The men on the left and right of the scene gesture to eachother. The scene is set beside the initial word, מעשה, "It is told," which begins the story of the five rabbis of Benei Beraq. Lower down in the text space, one of the rabbis, Rabbi El'azar ben Azariah, is depicted seated alone on a cathedra within an open landscape beside the passage beginning, אמ' להם ר' אלעזר בן עזריה, "Rabbi El'azar ben Azariah said...". He touches the beak of a dove perched on the grass to his left.
