A rectangular panel beneath the text space illustrates the passage above which begins,
ברוך שומר הבטחתו לישראל,
"Blessed be He who observes His promise to Israel ..."
The panel encloses the figure of Abraham, bearded and wearing a hat and a long robe, standing with outstretched arms against an open hilly landscape. Buildings can be seen in the distance beneath a cloudy sky. In the background on the left, a personified sun sets behind the hills (Gen 15:12). Three animals each divided in two (signifying the heifer, the she-goat and the ram, Gen. 15:9) are set on the ground to the right beside Abraham, while three whole birds (signifying the turtle dove and the pigeon, Gen. 15:9) lie before him. He holds a knife (?) in his left hand. Birds hover in the sky above the carcasses (Gen. 15:11) on the right, and an open tent stands on the far left.
In the text above on the right, a small square panel encloses the initial letter "Bet," commencing the above-mentioned passage, "Blessed be He who observes His promise to Israel..." The letter is written in the spared-ground technique. Within the panel behind the letter, a bearded man wearing a hat sits in a chair beside a table raising his hands together in prayer. His foot is superimposed over the base of the letter.
A curved, ornamental pediment ending in scrolls, which rests on two columns, surrounds the text.
