A round plafond decorates the center of the ceiling. It depicts an image of Leviathan as a fish or sea creature wound in a circle as if to eat its own tail. This Leviathan appears against a background of the sky. The image is accompanied by two inscriptions, one inside the plafond itself and the other encircling it.
The inner inscription reads:
בו לויתן זה יוצרת לשחק
(This Leviathan is made to play).
The outer inscription reads:
המלאכת הציור חלף עבודתם חלק לעולם הבא מוה"[ר] אליעזר בן מוה"ר' יעקוב שאול גארפינקעל מלמד תינוקות בשינאווע וגיסו חיים דוב בן מוה"[ר] זאב ז"ל. שנת תרס"ו ל'פ'ק'
(The work of painting is finished. For their work [they will be rewarded by having a] part in the world to come. Our teacher R. Eliezer, son of our teacher R. Yaakov Shaul Gorfinkel, melamed [teacher in heder] from Sieniawa, and his son-in-law Haim Dov, son of our teacher R. Zeev of blessed memory. Year [5]666 [= 1905-1906]).
