20 Description The coffin has a rectangular form, with a flat rectangular lid. The long sides of the coffin are decorated by two parallel bands of inhabited Trailing vine scrolls along the outer edges. Between them is a register of intersecting diagonal lines of bead and reel pattern forming six rhombi and triangles. The two inhabited Trailing vine scrolls bands comprise of leaves, tendrils, clusters of grapes, and birds perched on wide bowls. Each rhombus and triangle contains an eight petalled flower, with a knob in the center. One of the narrow sides of the coffin is decorated with an architectual design with an arch supported by two columns. Inside is an eight-petaled rossette. The arch is decorated with garlands of laurel leaves interwoven with ribbons and a small rossette in the center. The columns are with Attic bases. The lower part of the columns is fluted with narrow grooves, the upper part is fluted with broad grooves. The Corinthian capitals contain leaves, tendrils and intervening rosettes. Along the length of the lid are three parallel bands of inhabited Trailing vine scrolls. Between every two bands is a register of intersecting diagonal lines in beed and reel pattern, forming six rhombi, and triangles. Each rhombi contains a eight petaled flower. The inhabited Trailing vine scrolls bands are similar to the ones on the long sides.

36 Summary and Remarks
According to N. Avigad, in regard to the inscription, it is assumed that a girl and her aunt were laid in the coffin, and it may be assumed that only the bones were deposited. According to N. Avigad, the wreath motif is very common in Jewish sepulchral art at the end of the second-temple period; it is also encountered frequently in the lintels and friezes of the ancient synagogus.
38 Suggested Reconstruction
39 History/Provenance
The sarcophagus was found in room V. After the excavation the lid was removed to room I, near the entrance of the catacomb, in order to protect the inscription from humidity.

20 Description The sarcophagus has a rectangular body and a high gabled lid with four acroteria on the corners. Only the front of the sarcophagus is decorated, with a rectangular frame, tending slightly to the right. Within the frame are six coloumns, filling the space between them, are three smaller columns, a sacred object and a figure with an animal. The Six caved columns, set on pedestals with schematic Ionic and Corinthian capitals. From right to left: The first three columns are with Corinthian capitals, the next two are with Ionic capitals, and last one with Corinthian capital. A different pattern is depicted between each two columns. The space between the first two columns to the right, is filled with two enlongated pointed spools, obliquely fluted and standing in a bowl-like object, which stands on a pedestal. The next two spaces are filled with flat columns, lower than the main ones. They are fluted vertically and marked with short incisions. The next space is filled with a figure of man (a hunter?) standing on a pedestal. The man is dressed with a striped shirt and holds a spear in his left hand. In front of him is a small animal in a leaping position (dog?). The last space is decorated with same motif of a flat fluted column.

Only the front side of the sarcophagus is decorated, with heraldic lion and lioness, in profile, flanking a central vase. The lion, on the left, differs from the lioness by his larger size, his male organs, and by his mane. The lions' jaws are half open, revealing their tongues extending between two rows of sharp teeth; the large eyes are frontal. The mane is designated by straight lines and covers a large part of the body. At either edge of the front side is a twisted fluting column with a plain base, and Corinthian capital(?). A rope-like band decorates the rim of the sarcophagus body.
