Text illustration depicting at the top right the large figure of Moses dressed in brown and green. His face is covered with a white veil bearing an inscription, and a large flame-halo rises behind his head into the upper margin. He is accompanied by Aaron, who holds a rod, and by three other elders of Israel. He gestures to three Israelites on the left, the lowermost of whom is the young Joshua identified by his unique brimmed hat. Below them, in the centre of a round opening in the land, is the bearded, crowned Korah sorrounded by his companions. The second, dressed in gold, and the third both gesture with their hands. Below them are some heads of the people of Israel, bearded and wearing turbans, and some bare-headed Moabites. They all are falling to the ground, perhaps indicating their death by the plague mentioned in the text (Num. 25:9). 20 Description

The initial word of the book of Job "a man" איש is written in gold letters on a blue foliate ground in the upper section of the panel. In the lower section Job, afflicted by boils, sits on a dung heap. He shows the upper part of his body to his three friends who stand before him gesturing with their hands. Two banderoles inscribed with verses (Job 3:3, 4:1, 8:1, 11:1) are situated between Job and his friends.

The initial word is set in an architectural frame comprising two trefoil arches surmounted by buildings. The side columns of the trefoil arches frame the entire scene. Two grotesques on the right and left sides of the lower margin carry the panel on their backs.

20 Description

The two facing full-page panels (fols. 155v-156) feature the Sanctuary implements with Aaron the High Priest lighting the menorah.

Aaron, who stands at the top right of the page (fol. 155v), lights the menorah depicted in the opposite page (see fol. 156) with a torch, held in his left hand. In his right hand he holds a small bucket, the kuz. Aaron, wears a miter on his head and a breastplate over a long robe adorned with bells at the hem. The breastplate is inscribed with the names of the twelve tribes and the names Abraham, Isaac, Jacob andIsrael.

Behind him, to the left, is a stand surmounted by a tree symbolising theMount of Olives.

It is flanked by a flesh hook on the right and a shovel on the left.

On the far left is the table of shewbread with twelve loaves arranged in six pairs, inscribed with the words "shewbread" לחם פנים.

Beneath the tree stand covered goblet and possibly the jar of manna.

On a stand beneath the shewbread table is a bowl.

Below Aaron is the Ark of the Covenant depicted as a four legged table and a ring for hanging theArk's poles on each corner. Two bird-like cherubim with facial features and pointed Jewish hats hover over theArk, facing each other.

To the left of the cherubim are two trumpets situated over a stand and two other implements: a cauldron and a jar, possibly the Laver and its stand.

The implements on both folios are rendered in burnished gold on blue ground. Most of the gold has flaked off revealing a layer of white gesso and traces of the original outlines in lead pencil beneath.
