Description |
The picture represents a scene in a Jewish taylor house. The standing bearded taylor, hooked nose a wearing a kipa, is trying to pass a thread through the eye of a needle.
On his left, a seatted woman is sewing and another one is nursing her baby. In the forepart two children, seatted on the floor, are playing with a puppet and a black cat is standing near them.
On the table are clothes, an iron and a thread. A lamp is hanging in the center of the room. The whole scene is dark while patches of white produce light and contrast.
The title in Russian cursive letters is written on the left: "Semya" iz cikla Byloe ("Family" from the series "the Past") Dated on the lower right: 1934.
