20 Description A rectangular panel beneath the text space encloses a series of scenes of Abraham hosting the three angels, against the background of an open, hilly landscape. A personified sun can be seen in the sky. In the central background, Sarah stands by a table in an open tent preparing the meal. In the foreground on the right, Abraham stands amongst his herd choosing a calf to be slaughtered for the meal. A young servant assists him. In the central foreground Abraham, accompanied by two servant boys carrying plates of food, attends to his guests while pointing to himself. The guests, two of whom are visible, sit by a table on the left, beneath a tree. The table is covered by a cloth and is set with three plates, a jug and a goblet. Two boys carrying two plates serve from behind the table. Above the panel, within the text space on the right, a hand holding a round mazah decorated with a criss-cross pattern, illustrates the passage below which begins, מצה זו שאנו אוכלים, "This unleavened bread which we eat ..."

According to midrashic interpretations the visit by the angels to Abraham took place on Passover. In the Venice Haggadah, the scene illustrates the piyyut, אומץ גבורותיך, "The strength of Thy might ..." (Davidson I, א, No. 1871, p. 87) while here the scene accompanies the passages concerning the foods required to be eaten at the Passover Seder, according to Rabban Gamliel.
