The synagogue of Zuidlaren was constructed in 1884. It has a straightforward rectangular building layout with rounded arch windows and a gable roof. Remains can be seen of an inscription above the main entrance but has become unreadable. The rear façade has a commemoration stone upon which the construction date ‘1884’, the name of the mayor and the names of several Jewish authorities can be read.
The Jewish community of Zuidlaren was abolished in in 1925 and merged with the Jewish community of Assen. The synagogue was rededicated as a synagogue in 2007 and is currently used by the Dutch Jewish community Progressief Joodse Gemeente Noord Nederland (PJGNN).
