The menorah~ is surmounted by the first verse of the psalm, three letters over each branch. The base of the menorah~ is composed of eight steps, each a solid colour or bearing a geometric pattern. A circle hangs on either side of the menorah~, the one on the right bearing the inscription: " ס"מ"ו"ט" " )סור מרע ועשה טוב, תהלים לד:טו( "Depart from evil and do good..." (Ps. 34:14, initials). The left-hand semi-circle bears the inscription: "אמן דקדיש ]כתב רש"י[##אידהנויה" "Amen of the Sanctification [Rashi script]##the eight-letter name of God." (Ps. 145:16, initials and last letters) with the word "tefillin" between the initials and last letters. The name of the artist appears in very light letters at the outside edge of the base of each column, on the right side: "דוד" "David," and on the left: "סופר" "Sofer" The central section is surmounted by an inscription reading: "שויתי לנגדי תמיד. . . )תהלים טז:ח(##יה היא ויודע הכל##יהוה##אהיה##אגלא )אתה גבור לעולם ה'(" "I have set always before me...##The Lord" (Ps. 16:8) [ The Tetragrammaton, interspersed with the four-letter names "Eheyeh -- I will be," "Agla -- initials of 'Thou art mighty for ever Adonai'" and the words "She is G-d and knows all," whose initials form the Tetragrammaton]. The first line of this inscription is flanked on each side by a horizontal row of flowers. The Tetragrammaton is written in large, bold letters, and is surrounded by a geometric border. On its right side, reading from top to bottom, is the inscription: " י"ה"ה" י"ב"ק" )יי הושיע המלך יעננו ביום קראנו(" )תהלים כ:01( Ps. 20:9 (initials) ##and on its left side, reading from bottom to top: " ט"פ"ט"פ"י"ה" )טפלו עלי, טפש כחךב לבם, יהי נא חסדך לנחמני -- תהלים קיט:סט, ע, עו(" "Taftafiyah" [This is the name of an angel formed from the first two letters of the verses Ps. 119:69, 70,76]. The center section is surrounded by three concentric frames of texts with geometric or solid borders. The text of the innermost frame reads down the right side, and continues up the left side: "אדם עובר עבירה בסתר ויי##עומד עליו ורואה במעשיו אשר הו'" "A man sins secretly and God##stands above him and sees all his deeds which (he does???)" The text of the middle frame reads from the top right corner around to the top left: "אדם דואג על איבוד דמיו: ואינו דואג על איבוד ימיו דמיו אינם עוזרים: וימיו אינם חוזרים: שוב יום אחד לפני מיתתך" "Man worries over the loss of his wealth and takes no care over the loss of his days. His wealth will not come to his aid. The days of his life will not return. (Sefer Hahayim 10:1).
