In the lower part of the text space the initial words "ברכו את ה' המבורך" are placed within a large rectangular penwork panel. The panel is arranged in a lozenge pattern of alternating red and green and surrounded by J motifs of blue and magenta. Attatched to the corners and in the center of each side of the panel, are small medallions, inhabiting a vulture's head, a bird, a rabbit, a dog's head, hybrids and two legged animals. In the space between the two rows of the script are three medallions of floral motifs: a fleur-de-lys, a five petaled flower and a fig-leaf. Fleuronne' motifs are protruding from the four corners, and extend into the upper and lower margin, flanking the text. Above the panel two facing hybrids raising spears and shields fight each other. The left one is winged and bears a monkey's face, the right one is wearing a plummed hat and bears a curved beaked bird's face.

20 Description

In the upper part of the text space the decorated initial "אז" opening the first piyyut of the morning prayer (Davidson I א no. 2106, p. 99) is placed within a large red pen-work panel framed by a black painted bord of yellow and red foliated scrolls. The initial written in black display script is decorated by colored tracery. In the center of the joints of the letters appear brown rosettes. The red filigree ground is interspersed with blue and green rosettes. Below, the words "ביום כפור" continuing the piyyut are written in a smaller bold script within a narrow panel which is attached to the longer one. A blue medallion encompassing a white flower is located between the two words. The magenta ground is surrounded by a green band. Six additional medallions of dragons and hybrids are placed in the corners of the two panels. Stems of fleuronne' motif carrying triple spiral heads extend from the panels into the upper and lower margins. Two colorful long-tailed birds flank each of the upper floral bunches.

Four medallions which may represent the four apocaliptic animals, read clockwise: and eagle, an ox, a human head and a lion are located in the four outer corners of the two panels. Stems of fleuronne' motifs protruding from the corners into the upper and lower margins flank the text. 20 Description In the middle of the text space the initial words of the verse "נלוים אליו" of the piyyut "אמיץ כח" (Davidson I א, No. 5703, p. 260) are placed within a red and blue penwork rectangular panel arranged in a pattern of diagonal bands of alternating colours. Four medallions of a dragon, two legged animals and a bird's head are placed in the three corners of the panel. From the lower right corner a vertical panel extends along the right side of the text incorporating the initial for the next verse of the piyyut and two medallions above and below the letter inhabited by animals and leaves. Long spiral of fleuronne motifs protrud from the medallions, extending into the upper and lower margins flanking the text. On the upper right twig a silver spotted wing colourful bird is picking its breast's feathers.
