20 Description The synagogue consists of an irregular rectangle building,with one central entrance in the western wall and remaines of a side entrance can be seen in the northern wall. The main hall of the synagogue is divided by two rows of eight columns creating two lateral aisles and a central nave.According to Z.Maoz two galleries were located above the main hall.Windows were set along the walls of the galleries.Between the windows there were semicolumns projecting from outside wall each with diagonal Ionic engaged capital.The shafts of the columns and the doric capitals were found in a secondary use nearby.

CO : The side walls and the interior of the synagogue was completely destroyed by the new construction.
HIS : Horvat Kanaf is located four kilometers east of the Sea of Galilee.Kanaf was discovered by Oliphant and Schumacher at the end of the 19th century.The synagogue surveyed by Sukenik.The excavations in the site werw carried by Z.U.Ma'oz (1979-1981).According to the numismatic evidence the synagogue was builted in the begining of the 6th century A.D.

20 Description The western facade entrance decorated on the jumbs and the lintel. The jumbs and the lintel are carved in three bands from inside out: facia, torus (qurte de round),and cyma.The facia is decorated with a vine scroll,consists of alternating cluster of grapes and leaves,raising from an amphora.The lintel below the vine scroll is decorated with two strands guilloche.The vine scroll framed by a band of an astragal.The torus is decorated with egg-and-dart and the cyma by acanthus leaves. An Aramaic inscripton located above the lintel:"remember for good Yosh Bar Halfo Bar Hanio". The jumbs are flanked by two medallions.The left one encloses two overlaying five point stars surrounded by two interlacing squares.The right medallion consists of a conch surronding by inhabited meander.
