20 Description

The Torah shield is rectangular and terminates with a semi-circular arch. It consists of a plate.

A bull facing left is depicted in the center. It stands on the ground, covered with flowers. Zodiac signs divided into two groups are represented in medallions encircling the bull. Each group reads in a descending order. On the right side it starts with the sign of Lamb and on the left from the sign of Scales, (8929-8933) (8935-8940).

On the upper part of the shield there is an inscription in square filled letters, it reads: "זה הציץ מיפריוויז" "This shield was donated"

Two rings are attached to the backside and bear a chain.

Two hallmarks are stamped in the middle of the Torah shield.##1. The hallmark depicts a female head in "kokoshnik" facing left. It is flanked on the left by the cypher:"84"indicating Russian quality standard from the 18th till the
beginning of the 20th c. On the right it is flanked by cyrillic initials A.B. (A.V.) within an oval frame. These initials belong to Russian assayer Alexander Kazimirovich Virzikovski who was active in Kiev at the beginning of
the 20th c. This hallmark is a Russian authority mark for Kiev from 1899-1908.##C.f. Postnikova-Losseva p.148, no.12-17; Postnikova-Losseva, p.259, no.3872.
2. The hallmark depicts cyrillic letters "Sh.M.?" within a rectangular frame. These initials indicate an unidentified artist.

Lamb - The Zodiac sign depicts a ram, standing on the ground, facing left. A plant is growing in front of its mouth. 

Bull - The Zodiac sign depicts a bull facing left in the middle of the Torah shield. It is standing on the ground covered with flowers. In the righthand group of medallions the second one from the top depicts a clenched hand with an index finger pointing left at the bull. The hand is emerging out of a wide sleeve. The ground is depicted under the hand.

Two hallmarks are stamped in the middle of the Torah shield.

1. The hallmark depicts a female head in "kokoshnik" facing left. It is flanked on the left by the cypher:"84"indicating Russian quality standard from the 18th till the beginning of the 20th c. On the right it is flanked by cyrillic initials A.B. (A.V.) within an oval frame. These initials belong to Russian assayer Alexander Kazimirovich Virzikovski who was active in Kiev at the beginning of the 20th c. This hallmark is a Russian authority mark for Kiev from 1899-1908.##C.f. Postnikova-Losseva p.148, no.12-17; Postnikova-Losseva, p.259, no.3872.
2. The hallmark depicts cyrillic letters "Sh.M.?" within a rectangular frame. These initials indicate an unidentified artist.

A bull facing left is depicted in the center. It stands on the ground, covered with flowers. Zodiac signs divided into two groups are represented in medallions encircling the bull. Each group reads in a descending order. On the right side it starts with the sign of Lamb and on the left from the sign of Scales, (8929-8933) (8935-8940).

On the upper part of the shield there is an inscription in square filled letters, it reads: "זה הציץ מיפריוויז" "This shield was donated"

Two rings are attached to the backside and bear a chain.

The Torah shield is rectangular and terminates with a semi-circular arch. It consists of a plate.

A bull facing left is depicted in the center. It stands on the ground, covered with flowers. Zodiac signs divided into two groups are represented in medallions encircling the bull. Each group reads in a descending order. On the right side it starts with the sign of Lamb and on the left from the sign of Scales, (8929-8933) (8935-8940).

On the upper part of the shield there is an inscription in square filled letters, it reads: "זה הציץ מיפריוויז" "This shield was donated"

Two rings are attached to the backside and bear a chain.

A bull facing left is depicted in the center. It stands on the ground, covered with flowers. Zodiac signs divided into two groups are represented in medallions encircling the bull. Each group reads in a descending order. On the right side it starts with the sign of Lamb and on the left from the sign of Scales, (8929-8933) (8935-8940).

On the upper part of the shield there is an inscription in square filled letters, it reads: "זה הציץ מיפריוויז" "This shield was donated"

Two rings are attached to the backside and bear a chain.

20 Description

The Torah shield is rectangular and terminates with a semi-circular arch. It consists of a plate.

A bull facing left is depicted in the center. It stands on the ground, covered with flowers. Zodiac signs divided into two groups are represented in medallions encircling the bull. Each group reads in a descending order. On the right side it starts with the sign of Lamb and on the left from the sign of Scales, (8929-8933) (8935-8940).

On the upper part of the shield there is an inscription in square filled letters, it reads: "זה הציץ מיפריוויז" "This shield was donated"

Two rings are attached to the backside and bear a chain.
