The anthropomorphic Kabbalistic Tree in scroll format is entitled אילן דאדם קדמון (Ilan De-Adam Kadmon, Tree of Primordial Man). The Tree contains a complex of kabbalistic texts of the Shiur Qomah (שעור קומה) the Divine-Body tradition, and other pre-Lurianic texts (some unidentified): the late 12th century Kabbalah of the anonymous Iyun-Circle; the medieval Hasidism of Ashkenaz; the 13th century Kabbalah of R. Joseph Gikatella; Zohar; Tikkunei Zohar, R. Judah Ḥayyat and R. Moshe Cordovero (Kallush, Graphic Representation, p. 18).
The texts are written within a drawing of a man’s crowned head and a torso, while his proportionally smaller legs figure on the right edge of the fourth sheet of parchment. Other texts are written within geometric shapes and figures.
According to Hammerschlag's colophon, this scroll is based on a copy of the autograph copy of the Ilan composed by R. Hayyim Vital (1543-1620), the chief disciple of R. Isaac Luria (1534-1572; Kallush, ‘Great’ Parchment, p. 2).
