41 Condition
Parts of the crown are missing and crude repairs have been made. It seems that the case was originally longer and then cut down, because of the lack of symmetry of the design between the upper and lower halves.

20 Description The twelve-faceted wooden Torah case consists of a body and a crown. It is painted with colors. The case opens into two semicircle halves, in the middle of the front facet. the front is fastened with hook and eye while the back facet is hingd with six interlocking metal rings, three on each side of the sixth (?) facet. There are two wooden annulets, one around the bottom of the case and one around the top. They were originally blue, but the paint has rubbed off. The body is decorated. each facet is painted with blue flowers and stems on an orange background, separated by gold bands. Each facet is decorated with an identical design, but the colors alternate. The overall design consists of three friezes, separated by two horizontal bands. The lower frieze consists of a flower-like amphora from which sprouts a single stem bearing five flowers. The second frieze consists of daisies set in interlocking loops. The uppermost band consists of the same vase and flower motif with daisies above, this time connected with the interlocking loops vertically. The body is surmounted by a carved floral crown. The inner face is plain. The hollow bottom has a shelf with a hole in it for the wooden rods. Two insert holes for the rods are at the top of the case.## There is a sticker on the front that is partially effaced. What is left reads: "With the help of the holy to the salvation.../ Mevorach, son of Elihau De'i, may the Lord sustain him and grant him favor, Menzel Nabeul, in Tunisia, may he build our city, Amen. Inside is a similar sticker. All that is left that can be read is: De'i ... and sons "בע"הי )בעזרת השם יתברך( הקדש לישועה... מבורך בן אליהו ד'ע' הי"ו )השם ישמרהו ויצילהו( מנזל נאב יעא תוניזי"##בתוך התיק על מדבקה כתוב: "אלו ד'ע'... ובניו"
