36 Summary and Remarks
Mazar identifies the figure as a woman. The depiction is very simple. The eyes are represented by two dots; the eyebrows are drawn like two continuous arcs: the nose is indicated by a vertical line. Mazar identified the net-pattern $$9decoration of the rectangle as a garment covering the figure's entire body, a sort of chiton. See bibliography.

A seven-branched menorah flanked on either side by a column is carved on the left wall of the passageway. The columns support an architrave. The menorah occupies the entire area between the columns, from the floor to the architrave. Its branches issue from a central stem which widens towards the bottom and ends in a broad ring. The ring is set inside a round depression at the top of the base. The base is square and decorated with vertical lines in the center. The column on the left is set on a square pedestal and is crowned with a round capital. The column on the right is set on a pedestal and has no capital.

20 Description

The ship is placed on the outer wall of the arcosolium. It is depicted in profile, sailing from the left to the right. The keel is represented by a single curved line, drawn from prow to stern. On the deck, indicated by two parallel lines, there is a cabin or a tent with a flat roof. The roof and beams are indicated by strips of criss-cross pattern; similar strips decorate the hull of the ship. There are two small protuberances to the right of the cabin. Palm branches can be seen at the extremities of both the prow and the stern.
