  Torah case wrapper, Yemen, 1920-1960

The rectangular Torah^case^wrapper is made from a black cloth framed by yellow cloths. A black square cloth is attached to each of the four corners of the outward band. The wrapper bears an embroidered decoration of small flowers. Six loops are sewn on the right side of the wrapper and six round bells to its left side. A rectangular piece of parchment is attached to the central cloth,and bears a dedicatory inscription.The inscription appears in twelve raws,in square linear letters and reads:

!שויתי ה' לנגדי תמיד##זכה וקנה זה הספר תורה יחיא##אבן שלמה אלכחלאניבנה של##צדקה תנוח נפשה בצרור החיים##לזכות בו הוא וזרעו וזרע זרעו##עד סוף כל הדורות ויתקיים בו##לא ימוש ספר התורה הזה מפיך## ס' ויקהל משה את כל עדת בני##ישראל##כותב זה הספר הזה יוסף אבן##חכות אבן כה!ר אברהם צאלח##זצוק!ל)זכר צדיק וקדוש לברכה(!

!(Ps.16:8),won and bought this Torah scroll Yihya son of Solomon Elkachlani son of Zdaka,may her soul will be rest in bond of life,and to win it he and his seed and the seed of his seed until the end of the generations,and will fulfil in him ...(Ex.35:1).Writes this scroll Joseph son of Hakot son of ...Abraham Salach ,the righteous and holy,of blessed memory.!
