The text, Esther 1:19- 2:14, is surrounded by a picture frame from the other three sides (see Ma. 1052.4.1). At the center of the bottom illustration Vashti is sitting cross legged on a throne, wearing a green tight dress and golden jewels. She is holding a cup in her right, raised hand and a small fan in her left hand, beside her legs. A monkey is sitting at her right. Two women are seated down her throne, holding cups and drinking. On the right and the left foreground a maid is serving drinks on a tray. On Vash'ti's sides, two women are raising cups. At the foreground other two women are holding cups and drinking, and at the left a women is playing a harp. The frame that surrounds the text depicts couples of deer in a flourishing meadow. The lower right couple of deer are down a stream. At the upstream are a rock and a tree in a meadow. Above the text seven deer are surrounding two fruit trees. 20 Description

The picture below the centered text (Esther 2:14-3:8) represents Esther, being brought to Ahasuerush, illustrates Esther 2:16. On the other three sides of the frame a hunting scene is depicted on a decorated background. The picture below the text illustrates 2:16: "So Esther was taken unto king Ahasuerus". Ahasuerus is seen at his palace, in a room with arched windows. He is sitting on a pink throne, wearing a green robe and a yellow Tarbush. An old man is seen behind A. and 2 servants are sitting at his feet, holding fans. The left one, seen from the back is a black man, and the right one, frontally, is a white maid. Esther is presented in front of him. Her head is bowed modestly. She is wearing a green robe and a golden crown. Black servants are standing on her sides, holding a curtain behind her. A. seems to be very pleased of what he sees. The hunting scene on the other sides of the frame depicts, on both sides of the picture, a man, dressed in a yellow robe, pointing a bow towards four blue deer above him. They are running in an intertwining red plant, on a green background. Right above the text a man is sitting on the frame center in a yellow robe, blowing a horn. On both his sides, a horseman is riding a horse, while holding a spear. The horsemen are turning towards the escaping deer.

20 Description

The picture below the centered text (Esther 3:8-4:11) illustrates Esther 2:9. On the other sides of the frame peacocks are depicted on a vegetal background. The picture below the text depicts Esther in profile, sitting on a stool, wearing a yellow dress and looking at the mirror in front of her. The mirror is being held by a maid seated on the floor. Behind that maid, another one is pounding something in a mortar. A parrot is sitting above her. Behind Esther's stool are 2 maids. The right one, seen frontally, is holding a pendant. The left one, seen in profile, is holding a bowl and a jug. Another kneeling maid is sitting beyond a column, carrying a tray with 2 jugs. 2 green columns are dividing the scene which has purple curtains at the background. The picture might illustrate Esther 2:9 :"And he speedly gave her her things for purification with such things that belongs to her, and seven maidens which were meet to be given her". Notice: the picture depicts only 5 maidens. The picture frame represents a peacock spreading its tail in the top center. On each of the upper corners a peacock is looking at him. On the right and the left buttom a peacock is standing, tail-spread. A plant of green leavs and purple blossom is intertwining among the 5 peacocks, on a blue background.

20 Description

The picture below the Hebrew text (Esther 4:11-5:14) illustrates Esther 3:2. The symbolic is divided into two sections and is connected at the middle top. The picture below the text illustrates Esther 3:2 :"And all the king's servants, that were in the king's gate bowed and reverenced Ha'man: for the king had so commanded concerning him. But Mordecai bowed not, nor did him reverence". The picture depicts Ha'man, wearing fancy oriental clothes, inlaid with precious stones, standing with folded arms and a proud expression at the palace gate. Five people are bowing and revering him on the sides of the gate. A merchant is bowing in his niche with his goods around and tow kids down the shop. Mordecai is sitting loosely, leaning against the wall, wearing a red robe a green coat, looking straight away. The right side of the frame represents a green cactus plant with white blossom, on a red background. A snake is intertwining with the cactus, merging until the middle top, where the snake is threatening a roaring lion. The lion is standing at the end of the left side of the frame. Behind him a tree sprouts from the lower left corner. The lion and the tree represent Mordecai as a proud Jew (lion,Judea), with rich sources (Psalms 1:3). The snake and the cactus represent the cunning and the wickedness of Haman (D.P).

20 Description

The picture below the centered text (Esther 5:14-7:6) illustrates Esther 4:1. The frame, on the other sides of the text depicts a man and a woman tortured by monsters. The picture below the text illustrates Esther 4:1 :"When Mordecai perceived all that was done, Mordecai... went out into the midst of the city, and cried in a loud and bitter cry". Mordecai, sitting at the center of the picture, on the ground in a black robe is spreading his arms forth and turning his head upwards, mourning. Around him, in the room, other men are mourning. Some are holding their head painfully. Other men are turning their head upwards, asking for mercy. The interior seems to be a vaulted synagogue. The top frame represents a winged, green three-headed dragon. He is turning one tongue to a woman, who is standing on a rock on the right side of the frame. A dragon, sitting at the bottom right frame, is twisting around the rock and turning its tongue to her. The upper dragon is turning 2 tongues to a white-bearded man, standing on a rock at the left side of the frame. A dragon is twisting along the man's rock as well. The dragon is touching the man's head with his tongue. The man and the woman are turning desperately upwards.

20 Description

The picture below the text (Esther 9:22-32) illustrates the celebration of the Jews of Shushan. The top frame depicts the faces of tow men and a woman, and on the sides are the Seven Species. The picture below the text illustrates Esther 9:17: "... a day of feasting and gladness". The picture depicts Ahasuerus and Mordecai in a square, turning to each other. Ahasuerus, on the left, wearing a yellow robe, is carrying a jug on a tray and something else. Morecai, on the right, wearing a purple robe, is carrying a bottle on a tray . Three embraced girls are dancing in a line behind Mordecai and 3 embraced men are dancing in a line behind Ahasuerus. The city of Shu'shan is at the background. The top frame represents 3 faces: Esther, Mordecai and Ha'man or Ahasuerus, perhaps. The right face is of a black bearded man with a yellow-red head cover. The middle face is of a white bearded man and a blue-red head cover and the left one is of a crowed young woman, with a pink head cover. Around them and on both sides of the frame are pomegranates, vine, dates, wheat and fig intertwining with green leaves.
