20 Description

This painting on the western wall of the prayer hall depicts the Western Wall in Jerusalem. The Wall constitutes the background for an image of the city inside its stone walls and flanked by towers on either side. (The artist seems to have utilized the Tower of David twice for these depictions of towers.) The Mount of Olives is visible behind the Western Wall.

The inscription above the painting reads:

בונה ירושלים יהוה כדתי [נדחי] [י]שראל יכנס

(The LORD builds up Jerusalem; he gathers the outcasts of Israel. [Psalm 147:2]).

The inscription within the painting reads:

כותל מערבי

(Western Wall).
