The description is written by the researcher Alec Mishory.

Jeremiah's prophesies abound in objects and animals as metaphors. They enable artists to depict concise images of single objects in conveying moral and social messages. In a stained glass window dedicated to prophet Jeremiah, the artist includes a depiction of a seething pot, which stands for the evil brought by God upon the People of Israel: "And the word of the LORD came unto me the second time, saying, What seest thou? And I said, I see a seething pot; and the face thereof is toward the north. (Jeremiah 1, 13). Clay in the hands of a potter, who shapes it on a wheel serves in conveying the way God treats the Israelites: "O house of Israel, cannot I do with you as this potter? saith the LORD. Behold, as the clay is in the potter's hand, so are ye in mine hand, O house of Israel" (Jeremiah, 18, 6). A grapevine stands for "O vine of Sibmah, I will weep for thee with the weeping of Jazer: thy plants are gone over the sea, they reach even to the sea of Jazer: the spoiler is fallen upon thy summer fruits and upon thy vintage" (Jeremiah, 48, 32-33).

The description is written by the researcher Alec Mishory.

Isaiah's prophesies abound in objects and animals as metaphors. They enable artists to depict concise images of single objects in conveying moral and social messages. In a stained glass window dedicated to prophet Isaiah the artist includes a depiction of stars, echoing the prophet's description of the end of days: "For the stars of heaven and the constellations thereof shall not give their light: the sun shall be darkened in his going forth, and the moon shall not cause her light to shine.  ( Isaiah 13:10). A pair of hands in a priestly blessing: "There shall be no more thence an infant of days, nor an old man that hath not filled his days: for the child shall die a hundred years old; but the sinner being a hundred years old shall be accursed. (Isiah 65:20). Fire: For, behold, the LORD will come with fire, and with his chariots like a whirlwind, to render his anger with fury, and his rebuke with flames of fire. (Isaiah, 6:15). Therefore as the fire devoureth the stubble, and the flame consumeth the chaff, so their root shall be as rottenness, and their blossom shall go up as dust: because they have cast away the law of the LORD of hosts, and despised the word of the Holy One of Israel.. (Isaiah 5:24). In a furious prophecy, Isaiah uses an image of a Mountain: "And he will destroy in this mountain the face of the covering cast over all people, and the vail that is spread over all nations."; (Isiah 25:7). Wings: "But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary, and they shall walk, and not faint. (Isaiah, 40:30-31).

20 Description

The description is written by the researcher Alec Mishory.

Ezekiel's prophesies abound in objects and animals as metaphors. They enable artists to depict concise images of single objects in conveying moral and social messages. In a stained glass window dedicated to prophet Ezekiel, the artist includes a depiction of the Temple in Jerusalem, an edifice crowned with serrated top, echoing the prophet's words: “Son of man, describe the temple to the people of Israel, that they may be ashamed of their sins. Let them consider its perfection, 11 and if they are ashamed of all they have done, make known to them the design of the temple—its arrangement, its exits and entrances—its whole design and all its regulations[d] and laws. Write these down before them so that they may be faithful to its design and follow all its regulations: (Ezekiel 45). Flowing water that he sees in one of his visions: "The man brought me back to the entrance to the temple, and I saw water coming out from under the threshold of the temple toward the east (for the temple faced east). The water was coming down from under the south side of the temple, south of the altar. He then brought me out through the north gate and led me around the outside to the outer gate facing east, and the water was trickling from the south side" (Ezekiel 47, 1). Dry bones, as signifying the resurrection of the dead on the day of judgment: "The hand of the LORD was upon me, and carried me out in the spirit of the LORD, and set me down in the midst of the valley which was full of bones… The hand of the LORD was on me, and he brought me out by the Spirit of the LORD and set me in the middle of a valley; it was full of bones. […] 3 He asked me, “Son of man, can these bones live?” Then he said to me, “Prophesy to these bones and say to them, ‘Dry bones, hear the word of the LORD! … will make breath enter you, and you will come to life. I will attach tendons to you and make flesh come upon you and cover you with skin; I will put breath in you, and you will come to life. Then you will know that I am the LORD.’ (Ezekiel 37, 1-14).

20 Description

The description is written by the researcher Alec Mishory.

The prophet Amos was active during the reign of king Jeroboam II. He was from the southern Kingdom of Judah but preached in the northern Kingdom of Israel. Amos wrote at a time of relative peace and prosperity but also of neglect of God's laws. He spoke against an increased disparity between the very wealthy and the very poor. His major themes of social justice, God's omnipotence, and Divine judgment became staples of prophecy. He was admired for the purity of his language, his beauty of diction, and his poetic art, in which he used metaphoric objects to symbolically expand his prophecies. In a stained glass window dedicated to prophet Amos the artist includes a depiction of a plumb line, which stands for righteousness and honesty: "This is what the LORD showed me: The Lord was standing by a wall that had been built true to plumb, with a plumb line in his hand. And the LORD asked me, "What do you see, Amos?"  "A plumb line," I replied. Then the Lord said, "Look, I am setting a plumb line among my people Israel; I will spare them no longer (Amos, 7). Referring to people's greed he mentions sandals: "This is what the LORD says: For three sins of Israel,  even four, I will not turn back my wrath. They sell the righteous for silver and the needy for a pair of sandals” (Amos 2, 6). Fruits of the sycamore tree stand for Amos' simple, modest origins: "… Amos answered Amaziah, "I was neither a prophet nor a prophet's son, but I was a shepherd, and I also took care of sycamore-fig trees".  (Amos 7, 14). A shofar stands for God's wrath: "Hear this word the LORD has spoken against you, O people of Israel—against the whole family I brought up out of Egypt: …When a trumpet [shofar] sounds in a city, do not the people tremble? When disaster comes to a city, has not the LORD caused it?" (Amos 3, 1, 6).
