20 Description

The silver Torah Shield is rectangular and terminates with a semicircular arch. It consists of a plate.

A recatngualr plaque topped by a pointed arch is located in its center. It bears a dedicatory inscription written in square filled letters which read:

הציץ שייך

מרכבות עמי

נדב שנת תר'ט

"This tzitz belongs to the society mirkavot Aminadav (of coachmen?)  donated in the year [5]609 (1849)".

Two square columns with foliage capitals flank the plaque. They are superimposed by a undulating, downward facing serpent. A lion rampant regardant flanks the columns. A spread winged eagle with a branch grasped in each claw surmounts the plaque. A crown situated in the arch is located above the head of the eagle. Leafed branches at the base of the arch are intertwined with animals. The center animal is a deer regardant. Perched above him is a bird. Flanking the deer at his left is a woodpecker and at his right, a goat. Both face inwards.

The shield is framed by a foliate chain.
