20 Description An elephant occupies the medallion to the left of the central medallion of the eighth row of the nave panel. It is depicted in profile facing right towards the center. It's head is raised and both its tusks are discernible. Its trunk is curled downwards and away from its body. There is a rectangular blanket or saddle on its back.

25 Material/Technique
The limestone tesserae are arranged in curved lines to form the shape and shading of the elephant. Two to
four lines of background tesserae surround the elephant and one to two lines follow the medallion frame. The density
per 10cm2 is not uniform. The density is 11x12 and 10x10 for the body with a lower count of 9x10 for the background.
The colors of the tesserae are off-white, white, black, grey, brown and dark pink.
