20 Description

Illustration no. 11 (sheet no. 4, above text panel no. 7) a man - presumably the king - sits at the table that is placed between the trees with an open book in front of him. The presence of the gallows with two bodies suspending from it (visible in the background) suggests that he reads the fragment of the empire's chronicles telling about the plot of Bightan and Teresh against him (Es. 6:1-3 Es. 2:23). The panel is flanked by roundels with Yiddish inscriptions (cited below) and below them are depicted two figures of the king.

Roundel 6 (on the right):

"The king has a bad dream. He sends for a scribe and orders him to read the chronicles of the empire"

Roundel 7 (on the left):

"The scribe starts to read how the king was saved by Mordecai from the conspiracy of Bigthan and Teresh. However, Mordecai has not received the payment yet"
