Description |
The panel representing the zodiac wheel with Helios and the seasons is situated at the centre of the nave, between the panels of the sanctuary implements to the south and the medallions panel to the north.
The subject is depicted in two concentric circles within a square frame.
The inner circle depicts Helios in a chariot.
The twelve signs of the zodiac are enclosed in segments in the outer circle; each sign is identified by a Hebrew inscription. They are arranged
clockwise and face the center. A wide strip surrounds the outer concentric wheel while a
plain line surrounds the inner circle and some of the segments.
The four seasons appear in the spandrels of the rectangular panel. The seasons are represented as female busts, facing the center. Two of the seasons are identified by a Hebrew inscription and special attributes.
