Description |
On the right hand of the upper frame, the crowned Queen Esther clothed in a long dress is sitting and looking at the prostrating Haman. He is begging Esther for mercy and is touching her thigh or knee, but she is pushing him off by her right hand. The scene is not an exact depiction of the quotation from the Book of Esther inscribed in the upper part of the frame: "והמן נופל על [ה]מטה אשר אסתר [ע]ליה" - "And Haman was fallen upon the bed whereon Esther was" (Es. 7:8). Behind the queen, two maidens are standing. Figures of Haman and Esther are identified by their names written in Hebrew characters: "אסתר" and "המן". In the left part of the panel, the crowned king is standing and pointing towards Haman with his right hand. In front of Ahasuerus, the bearded chamberlain with a mantle on his shoulder, identified as "חרבונה" - "Harbonah", is pointing to the gallows represented in the next panel.
In the lower section, possibly twin-tailed mermaid is depicted. In a small panel on the left, a dove (?) is picking a worm (?) out of a plant. |
