20 Description

The illustration joins two episodes; only one of them - the triumph of Mordecai - is directly based on the Book of Esther, while the other depicts the story told in T.B. Megillah 16. Mordecai with a short beard and clothed in the king's robes and turban, rides a horse being led by Haman (Es. 6:11) and he holds a saber pointing upwards, in his right hand. The biblical scene is supplemented by the representation of Haman's daughter who stands at the window of a building behind them and from a pitcher pours out bedpan slops on her father's head (she intended to humiliate Mordecai but instead of him, by mistake, she humiliated her father).
