<p>To the right of the text column: </p>
<p>The upper scene in the margin to the right of the text column shows two men fighting. The man on the right (a Jew) is bearded, and wears a skullcap and a long coat. In his right hand he raises a sword against a man wearing a tall, stiff hat (his enemy), who stands beside him. The Jew grabs the lapel of his enemy's jacket (alluding to Es. 9:5).</p>
<p>The lower panel of the margin to the right of the text column, encloses two men walking and pointing to the left. They both wear pointed triangular hats and hold a cane. A Hebrew inscription is written above them as follows, הרצים יצאו דחופים "The posts went out, being hastened" (from Es. 8:14).</p>
<p>The middle panel in the margin to the right of the text column encloses the bearded Mordecai wearing a turban and long coat, facing left. He holds the king's decree in his right hand and a scepter in the other hand (alluding to Es. 8:15, 17).</p>
<p>A scene of the hanging of Haman's ten sons is depicted at the center of the left text column. Five sons hang on each side of decorated gallows constructed of three poles, with their hands tied behind their backs (alluding to Es. 9:7-10). The gallows are set on the crest of a hill dotted with trees. Two men, standing on the right slope of the hill, point at the hanging scene.</p> |
