20 Description

Fols. 131v-132: Two facing carpet pages at the end of Pentateuch executed by Scribe A. That on fol. 131v is on half a page, the other half occupied by the right text column which ends the book of Deuteronomy. The decoration consists of four interlacing roundels surrounded by and enclosing palmette arabesques on blue, red, green and yellow ochre grounds. The panel is framed by acanthus scrolls, palmette chains and braid motifs. These as well as the arabesques are laid with gold leaf, which reveals the yellow ochre base wherever it has flaked off (fol. 131v). The text of Pentateuch is thus enclosed between two twin carpet pages, at its beginning (25v-26) and end (131v-132).
