20 Description

The silver Torah finials consists of a shaft, a body and an apex.

The cylindrical tapering shaft is encircled at the bottom, middle and top by rings.

The globular body is composed of two semicircles decorated with a pattern of arches and flowers, joined by a band. Fourteen chains with drop shaped bells are attached to the band. Two bands baring an inscription are placed on both sides of  the joining band. The inscription is written in square filled letters and reads:

On the first finial: “ Dedicated to the Lord that was dedicated by the man of substance Haham David son of the exalted Mordehai  Rephael/ A golden bell and a pomegranate, a golden bell and a pomegranate, upon the hem of the robe round about”.

On the second finial: “For the exaltation of the soul of his brother the exalted Rachamim Scasi may he rest inEden

26th Tamuz 1906.”

The upper hemisphere of the body is onion shaped, topped by a tapering cylindrical apex that terminates with a bud. Six triangles are attached to the apex, bearing chains with drop shaped bells.
