Description |
The initial word of the book of Job "a man" איש is written in gold letters on a blue foliate ground in the upper section of the panel. In the lower section Job, afflicted by boils, sits on a dung heap. He shows the upper part of his body to his three friends who stand before him gesturing with their hands. Two banderoles inscribed with verses (Job 3:3, 4:1, 8:1, 11:1) are situated between Job and his friends.
The initial word is set in an architectural frame comprising two trefoil arches surmounted by buildings. The side columns of the trefoil arches frame the entire scene. Two grotesques on the right and left sides of the lower margin carry the panel on their backs. |
