20 Description Fol. 37: Text page of Musaf for the New Year, including a text illustration of a man blowing a shofar and four small initial words written in red. The text illustration, executed by artist A in red and brown ink and green wash, is set in the space under the initial word KaShRak ( קשרק), which are the initials signaling the specific rhythm and number of sounds which should be blown on the shofar at this moment in the service. The bearded man is standing facing left, blowing the shofar while holding it with both hands. The long shofar is painted green, with several lines rising up from the opening, illustrating the sound emitted by the shofar. The man is wearing a green pointed Jewish hat and a mid-length robe which is partly painted green and partly decorated with red hatching. The four small initial words are partially decorated by a later hand of the 18th century in black ink wriggly-work ending at the edges with small flourishes.
